DPM Mahara meets Chinese Premier Li



Aug 17, 2016- Visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Wednesday met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing. According to Harish Chandra Ghimire, head of Nepal’s mission in Beijing, Mahara, on behalf of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, extended invitation to Premier Li for visiting Nepal. In response, the Chinese Premier thanked Mahara for the invitation, Ghimire added. Mahara had formally extended the invitation on Tuesday through the Chinese Foreign Ministry. As per the procedure, the invitation will be forwarded by the ministry to Office of the President and the Premier for final approval. Mahara had also extended invitation to President Xi Jinping on behalf of President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues during the meeting that lasted for about 20 minutes this morning. “China has always welcomed peaceful change of government in Nepal and will extend support to the newly formed government too,” Ghimire quoted Premier Li as saying at the meeting, adding that the regime change won’t impact the relationship of two nations. Both the leaders stressed on strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Mahara informed the Chinese Premier about the plans of newly formed government and the approach it will be taking. The visiting DPM will call on the head of International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) this evening. DPM Mahara is on a five-day official visit to China as a special envoy of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
