The government is doing its homework to conduct the local elections by mid-March next year, said Chandra Prakash Khanal, chief political advisor to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
As the election calendar states that the local elections should be conducted by
mid-April 2017, the current government is making preparations accordingly, Khanal said at an interaction organised by the Reporters’ Club in the Capital on Sunday.
Consensus, cooperation and unity at the political level were essential to ensure timely polls and meaningful implementation of the constitution, he added.
Noting that the demands put forth by the Madhesi front were part of the national agenda, Khanal said the opposition party, CPN-UML, should help create an atmosphere to address those demands.
