Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will embark on a three-day official trip to India on September 15 during which a major project is likely to be signed.
Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi, who is currently on a visit to India as a special envoy of PM Dahal, and Indian officials confirmed the date for PM Dahal’s maiden foreign trip. Dahal will return from India on September 17 after holding some high-level political meetings in New Delhi.
DPM Nidhi held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister on Saturday and handed over a letter from PM Dahal to his Indian counterpart.
Officials at the External Affairs Ministry of India said that Dahal, during his current nine-month tenure as PM, has conveyed his desire to speed up development works rather than focusing on political and diplomatic matters and sought help from the India side for the same.
It is expected that a major project would be signed between Nepal and India during Dahal’s visit as per the desire of PM Dahal. Apart from that, PM Dahal has sent a long list of agreements he wants to sign during his visit, and DPM Nidhi held discussions with Indian officials regarding the same.
According to a source, Dahal, in his letter, has suggested taking ahead the works of long-delayed Pancheshwor multipurpose project at the Mahakali river at Nepal-India border.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Nepal visit in 2014, had pledged to accord priority to the Pancheshwor project.
