SC stays govt decision to withdraw envoy nominees

Aug 17, 2016- Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a stay order on the Pushpa Kamal Dahal government's decision to withdraw 14 ambassadorial nominees recommended by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli led government.
A single bench of Chief Justice Sushil Karki directed the government not to implement the decision to withdraw 14 political appointees recommended for top foreign diplomatic positions. The court has also asked the government to furnish a written reply clarifying the withdrawal of 14 nominees.
Four ambassador nominees of Oli government had filed a case at the apex court after the withdrawal. Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers was the defendants in the case.
The second Cabinet meeting of Dahal-led government had decided to recall 14 political ambassadorial nominees at a time when hearings of ambassador nominees were ongoing at the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee.
Seven names of career diplomats picked as ambassadorial nominees, however, were not cancelled.
