The Pashupati Area Development Trust has scrapped the ticket system for those willing to pay to avoid queue to enter the main temple for worship on Haritalika Teej on Sunday.
Earlier, devotees paying Rs1,000 would get easy access to the Pashupatinath temple.
Govinda Tandon, member secretary of the Trust, said they decided to scrap the
system as it was criticised from all quarters as discriminatory. “People suggested that there should be no discrimination between the rich and the poor while getting into the temple.”The elderly, VIPs and people with disability are not required to stand in queue to enter the main temple. The Trust has also banned social organisations to volunteer for queue management. “We found volunteers misusing the pass,” said Tandon.
Security personnel will be deployed to assist the people on the shrine premises. The organisations that have already been registered to volunteer will be allowed to help people stand in queue outside the temple premises.
The PADT has adopted a “unified security system” this occasion, deploying 2,500 Nepal Police, 599
Armed Police Force and 250 Central Investigation Bureau personnel.
Police have advised devotees, who are mostly women on the day, not to wear expensive jewellery items for security reasons. The PADT has installed 25 CCTV cameras for surveillance. Around 800,000 people are expected to visit the shrine on Sunday.
